Born in the nerve center of an urban area characterized by the presence of an outer highway, the building rises on a strong baseboard that comes from the Square as an extension of the public space.

The ground level locates all community facilities that can be used outside the library opening hours and that may appropriate public space for larger events.

Above ground level, the library volume seems to float over the public space and community areas. White, simple and almost immaterial, it protrudes over the Square so peacefully that reminds the typical architecture from Alentejo.

The contrast between white and ‘earth tones’ of the baseboard on the Square becomes a reference of Grândola’s urban identity. The building is simple, placid, intuitive, of easy access, and it stands in the area as an equipment able to address both its urban and functional needs.
